Joachim Voigts

1907 – 1994

Born in Windhoek, Namibia. – Painter and graphic artist of dunes
and desert landscapes, seascapes, figures and wildlife. Worked in oil,
watercolour, ink, charcoal, wood- and linocuts. Well known for his book plates, ex-libris, mostly designed for his friends but also on commission are quite unique in Namibia.
Studied graphic design at the Braunschweiger Kunstgewerbeschule in Germany and later on at the Academy of Art in Munich,
Returned to Namibia 1940. Worked from there on his farm and moved
1978 to Windhoek, where he was also awarded for his engagement regarding the Arts Association as a founder member with the life membership.

Exhibitions: Participated in various group exhibitions from 1931 in
Germany, Brazil and SWA/ Namibia, 1958 SAAA Gallery in Pretoria,
Johannesburg Art Gallery and SAAA Gallery, Cape Town, exhibition of
Group Five, together with Adolph Jentsch, Otto Schröder, Fritz Krampe
and Heinz Pulon.

Awards: 1985 First Price for Watercolour, STANSWA Competition.

Represented: SA National Gallery, Cape Town, National Gallery, Windhoek
Arts Association, Swakopmund
