About the Artist

Gerrit Du Raan

1946 – Okahandja

Works in Oil; Subject matters: Namibian and South African landscapes, especially the
Namib & Western Region

Profile:
Worked as a technician for South African Airways from 1965 to 2009. Returned to
Namibia in 1970 as Line Station Supervisor at Hosea Kutako International Airport, with
the daily 100km drive to work and back being one of the main perks in addition to
numerous trips collecting photographic references
Apart from some evening classes in 1978 with Hilda Wasserfall studied whatever
examples could be found from the “ Old Masters , Impressionists and modern masters of
landscape art, otherwise self-taught.

Exhibitions:
Participated in group exhibitions countrywide. Joint exhibition 1981 AMA Gallery with
Inge Wansleben-Fellhuber and Elizabeth Opperman and 2005 Art Association
Swakopmund with Hendrik Venter.

Uis Recreation Club, Cancer Associations of Namibia, Namibian Government Collection
