Gerrit Van Schouwenburg
1956 – Bloemfontein
Works in pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolour, gouache, tempera, acryl and oil as well as graphic works like linocuts. Known as a sculptor. Works with wood, bronze, stainless steel, glass and metal; subject matters: portraits, animal sketches, abstracts, landscapes, seascapes, portraits, still life, figures and wildlife
Profile:
Studied at the University of the Orange Free State from 1975 – 1979 under Professor Teurlinck, Laura Rautenbach and Leon De Bliquy and obtained a teaching diploma as well as a Diploma in Higher Education. Taught at Oranje Girls High 1982 – 1983 and became a lecturer at the Orange Free State Technikon 1984 – 1985.
Won already 1978 two prices with his miniature wood carvings while studying under renowned sculptor Laura Rautenbach.
Worked 1987 – 1991 for the National Museum. Taught art at Windhoek High School 1991 – 2002. Since then fulltime artist.
In 2005 two of his works was handed over as trophies by the National Art Gallery of Namibia for special achievements.
Solo – Exhibitions:
Participated in group exhibitions in South Africa, Slovenia, Macedonia,Italy and Australia. -1993 Joint exhibition with wife Hester Heroldt van Schouwenburg at Gallery 191, Windhoek. First solo – exhibition in 1978 at the University of the Orange Free State in Bloomfontein, South Africa.
