Works in all medias, although she is currently exclusively working in oil; subject matters: still life’s, figures; style: impressionistic
Shirley discovered her love for art already in her early childhood, the long-cherished wish to become an artist became only true in 1985. Joining after her studies at, the Watercolor Association of South Africa in 2003 she quickly achieved Associate status in 2005. During the time she had a number of works judged “ Best on Show “ by both – the public and the society.
1997 she had a successful solo exhibition in Birmingham, Detroit, USA. In 2000 she successfully participated in the annual “ Art in the Park “ exhibition in Pietersmaritzburg and two of her paintings are included in “ The Unity Canvas “, commemorating 9/11, which has been on display throughout the United States.
Her work has been bought by individual collectors all over South Africa and she received commissions for both – corporate work and portrait studies. – Her religious art can be seen in the Catholic Seminary, Umtata; Mariannhill Monastery Retreat House, as well as Maria Wald Retreat Centre, Reading, Pennsylvania, USA. In 2012 one of her works was selected by the movie producer Anant Singh to be used on the set of “ A long walk to Freedom “
