About the Artist

SUSAN GUERIER – MITCHINSON

1953- Newcastle upon Tyne, England 2014 – Swakopmund

Resided to Namibia in 1984

Worked in oil and gouache, woodcuts and sculptures in bronze; subject matter: human beings and figure groups, human conditions; style: expressive

Born and raised in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in England, Susan received her Master’s degree in Linguistics from the University of Caen in France 1975. She started to paint already at a young age and have been impressed by El Greco´s work. – Simultaneously to her linguistic studies she visited evening art classes at the classical Beaux – Arts Art School in Caen with Monsieur Auffret, a sculptor. Further drawing classes with M Aerts, distinguished sculptor in Reims, France.

Susan Mitchinson fell in love with Namibia in1984 and decided that this is where she would be spending the rest of her life.
