About the Artist
Lieze Meyer
Painting from the heart, I feel that every painting has to tell a story. Emotion plays a major part in each of my paintings, whether it is in the eye of an Nguni cow looking at her calf, the way a little newborn donkey stands on its wobbly legs or almost hearing the flapping of wings at a vulture feed. Shapes, movement and mood are all elements that drive my inspiration. By creating these images I hope to make people aware of the beauty hidden in the more unknown and not so often painted creatures of this world.
I have developed my style and technique using a very minimal palette which results in monochromatic paintings, portraying a certain sense of calmness and mood
I have a BA graphic design Degree obtained in 1986 from The University of Stellenbosch. I work from my studio at home in Hilton, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. I exhibit annually at various shows in South Africa, one of which is Art in The Park, Pietermaritzburg, where I have been in the top 10 selling artists for 5 years consecutively now. My paintings hang in various galleries in KZN from where pieces have been sold to collectors locally and abroad. In 2015 was commissioned to do all the paintings for the new Brahman Hills Hotel and Conference centre in Nottingham Road as well as Cheetah Ridge Lodge in the Nambithi Private Game Reserve.
