Nola Muller
About the Artist
Nola Muller
Born 1949 in CapeTown
When an artist loves nature as Nola Muller does, there will be a sincere connection with the land. She has portrayed the wide open spaces of the Kalahari in her large watercolors; and illustrated the ways of the first people in her ” trancedance” acrylics. Recently she has traveled in the Namaqualand region, taking in the atmosphere of the relaxed back yards where the washing flaps in the wind and dogs wait patiently. Scant furniture is scattered in the yard. Time passes slowly, change is gradual and the old ways persist.
Today Nola uses oils, her brushwork is loose, the paint is thick and buttery, her palette warm and earthy. In her work we see a strutting peacock cast a shadow on the crudely plastered barn wall and a milk bucket is covered from flies. These works celebrate the fragile but enduring lives of the people.
